Examples using GeoJSON data in Spherical and Elliptical 3D environmets, that can include graticule lines. Up to 500,000 data points can displayed as color-coded particles.
3D Spherical Projection & Color-Coded Particles GeoJSON data has 300,000 points. Each point has coordinates and color properties. D3 builds the spherical projection and its graticule. Three.js places the color-coded particles.

(In many cases the elliptical projection is preferred. It can be arranged to display fully in the browser window.)
3D Elliptical Universe & Stars Combines D3 with three.js to place 120,000 stars in the universe, from GeoJSON data. The stars are particles, that are color coded based on each star's magnitude.
